Farm2Fork

Farm to Fork (F2F) is the plan of the European Commission to guide the agricultural transition to a fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system. These are measures and objectives that involve the entire food chain, from production to consumption, up to distribution. The underlying goal is to make Europe's food systems sustainable. Farm to Fork targets for 2030 include:
Sangaspano is committed to implementing all 5 objectives of the plan today.
  • 1Our fruits are characterized by being healthy as they are not chemically treated, sustainable thanks to the natural production method and economically advantageous since from our trees they reach the final consumers directly, without intermediaries
  • 2We adopt measures to deal with climate change (droughts, fires, floods) and the erosion of agricultural soil. The irrigation of our trees in order to promote water saving has been converted from continuous spray systems to dripline irrigation systems managed with remote control units on the network. In this way we are also able to save energy by reducing the withdrawal of water from the aquifers. Against fires we have created natural firebreaks which allow us to protect the trees and the populations living near the land.

    Again, most of our land is are located on building areas. With our project Fight4Trees, which plans to plant thousands of new saplings, we fight overbuilding, building speculation and the subtraction of land from agriculture.
  • 3We have always promoted biodiversity thanks to our 25,000 trees in the Milazzo area. This contributed to Milazzo's record in Italy in biodiversity in 2023! We have also doubled the number of bees on the farm to encourage pollination and protect the species.
  • 4Sangaspano involves local artisans in the preparation and sale of products guaranteeing fair financial compensation for the entire Sicilian food chain. Thanks to Titti the cook, Ciccio the pastry chef, Giovanni the master distiller, we preserve the ancient and artisanal production methods and make our products artisanal and 100% Sicilian
  • 5Enhancing organic and sustainable agriculture is our primary objective. Already today all the land is cultivated according to natural methods and without the use of pesticides or chemical treatments. We don't use artificial fertilizers to swell our fruit and push the trees to produce more. We prefer ugly and small but good and genuine fruits.
