Organic Sicilian avocado a superfood that is good for health and the environment . Sangaspano in 2026 will plant up to 4000 new trees in organic regime.
Avocado is a truly amazing fruit and rich in quality and nutritional properties.
The benefits of Sicilian avocado include health benefits, thanks to monounsaturated fats and fiber, and the richness of vitamins (A, B, C, E) and minerals (potassium, magnesium, calcium). It contains almost no sugar and carbohydrates at all, but it is much richer in protein, good fats and fiber than the fruit we usually eat. In addition, avocado is an abundant source of vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin K, important for bone and blood health, vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, vitamin B, which supports metabolism, and potassium, which supports muscle function and blood pressure. The researchers found that people who ate avocados every day as part of a meal had a greater abundance of gut microbes that break down fiber and produce substances that support gut health.
Among the varieties, Hass is the best avocado. Speaking are the numbers: in this variety carotenoids, tocopherol and beta-sitosterol are definitely present in greater quantities than the others and - not least - the presence of monounsaturated fats is greater, the fats that are good for the body.
Non-nutritional benefits include the sustainability of local production, which reduces the environmental impact thanks to the short supply chain, and the possibility of a fresh and high quality product. The organic choice then protects the environment thanks to the absence of chemical pesticides and the use of sustainable practices. These cultivation methods preserve soil health, biodiversity and water, reducing pollution and contributing to a healthier ecosystem. Environmental benefits also include the enhancement of the soil with organic fertilizers and the reduction of water consumption through drip irrigation.
Sangaspano since 2022 has started to plant avocado saplings in organic regime in the Municipality of pace del Moderna using modern cultivation techniques (including drip irrigation with humidity sensors, baulatura and mulching) that allow to drastically reduce the use of water and the use of pesticides. The planted plants, of Hass Bacon and Reed varieties, will be over 4000 and the harvest of the fruits has begun in the 2025/2026 campaign.
